Most of us don’t like to venture out of our professional fields of knowledge when it comes to many of the things we use daily, such as our vehicles. We have professionals specifically so we don’t have to. However, a basic working knowledge of your vehicle really tends to come in handy. We’ve put together an overview of how radiators work to help you on your way to understanding your car.
What does it do?
In a nutshell, it cools off the engine. You see, the engine contains many parts constantly working together; this creates a lot of friction that could otherwise severely damage it. The oil can’t deal with this on its own.
How does it work?
Most of the time, radiators push fluid (most often comprised of a mixture of water and anti-freeze) through the engine. In the engine, the process of radiation moves the heat into the fluid. Then, the fluid goes out to a place where radiation can send it into the air, usually behind the car’s front grill. This process repeats itself, constantly keeping your engine from overheating.
